The PVMC is a statutory body set up by the Government of Pakistan to regulate the veterinary profession in Pakistan. The PVMC is responsible for licensing all veterinarians in the country, and is a member of the World Organization for Animal Health (OIE). The PVMC is responsible for the regulation of all veterinary practices in Pakistan, including the registration of veterinary hospitals, clinics, and private practice. It also regulates the accreditation of veterinary schools and laboratories. The PVMC is an autonomous body, and it is under the direct control of the Ministry of National Food Security and Research. The PVMC has a Board of Governors that includes the Minister of National Food Security and Research, the Secretary for the Ministry of National Food Security and Research, the Director General of the National Institute of Veterinary Epidemiology and Disease Control, the Secretary of the Pakistan Society for Prevention of Cruelty to Animals, and other representatives from the veterinary profession.
